The control line can be very light due to the dye that goes to the test line. This happened to me too, and it's not a big deal. The more pregnant I was the darker the test line got and the lighter the control line. I think it's normal. Tell him to take it first thing in the morning. That's when you say the hormone is the longest! Also, drinking too much water before trying will only dilute your urine and you won't get an accurate reading anyway... I suggest that the first urine of the day be tested. Good luck! If the control line didn't show up means the test is bad... you should call the number in the box to get one free or just go find another to take. I was sneaking around for some security as I was all prepared to know for sure if I was pregnant (for some reason the memory of the first positive HPTs will be forced into your mind when you're scaring like this!) So... I went and bought another HPT... I know it was a little dumb, but I did. So I took it, and like you said, the control lines were very light... I think because the HCG was so much (and it was at night!) that the test line took the dye from the other lines, which made it a very strong positive. 2 days later I heard my precious baby's heartbeat at my midwife's home! 156 strokes per minute!
